Subfamily Thripinae

Thripinae comprising 1740 species in 229 genera globally is the largest of the four subfamilies in the family Thripidae. Members exhibit a wide range of biologies, with many live in flowers, on leaves, some inhabit both habitats, a large number specifically associated with Poaceae, a few on mosses, and a very few are predators (ThripsWiki, 2023). One species group appear likely to be involved in induction of galls on plants in Southeast Asia and Australia (Tree and Mound, 2009).
