Highly polyphagous with hosts in over 50 families and common hosts include cotton, bhendi, tomato, potato, pomegranate, hibiscus, parthenium, etc. For more details, see Hodgson et al., 2008 and CABI.
Pest status
A native of the Americas and an invasive species in South Asia.
It caused a great deal of devastation in 2005-09, but it is now effectively controlled by Aenasius arizonensis (Girault) (Encyrtidae), a parasitoid probably introduced along with the host. Large populations are still noticed particularly in summer months.
