Nymphs and adults suck the plant sap from young leaves and transmit several plant viruses, primarily the rice tungro virus (RTV). Typical damage symptom is hopper burn (yellowing, browning and death of above ground parts) as in the case of planthoppers and in rare cases, wilting of upper leaves.
