Highly polyphagous, affecting more than 78 annual plant species, especially serious on greens, cucurbits, tomato, castor and ornamental plants in India.

Larvae mine the leaves, feeding on the mesophyll region leaving a serpentine structure of mines on the surface. In case of severe infestation, leaves may drop. The full-grown larvae come out of the mines, drop down and pupate in soil.
Pest status
A native of the USA and an invasive pest in India, introduced in the early 1990s. Serious on tomato.
