Taxonomic position
Insecta: Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Curculioninae: Curculionini
Habitat / Crop(s) damaged
A minor pest of jamun, feeds on fruits by boring.
Recorded as "breeding in the fruit of Eugenia jambolana in India" (Beeson, 1961). The female oviposits in the mesocarp of the fruit and the larva develops in the kernel. Both adults and larvae feed on the fruit of Eugenia (Syzygium).
Another species, C. notobifasciatus Pajni & Singh, also feeds on jamun and looks very similar to C. c-album and can be easily confused with the latter. Curculio c-album can be separated from C. notobifasciatus by its larger size and the scutellum covered with whitish scales.
