Common name
Mango fruit borer
Biology
The mango fruit borer Citripestis eutraphera (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), known earlier as Philotroctis eutraphera Meyrick, was first reported in Andamans (Bhumannavar, 1991) and probably now has spread to parts of Southern India (Kamala Jayanthi et al., 2014). It attacks immature stages of mango (Mangifera indica) fruit. It has been observed on multiple mango varieties (Alphonso, Totapuri and Banganapalli) that there is absolutely nil infestation in the harvested fruits in the year 2014-2015. As the pest was not seen at harvesting stage and subsequently on shelf it will not affect fresh fruit export or market however immature fruit transportation can lead to the spread of this pest.
