Highly polyphagous, recorded from 268 genera from 36 families but most commonly on Brassicaceae, Fabaceae and Asteraceae.

Larvae mine into the leaves and leave a trail of faecal matter inside the mines. Pupation takes place inside the mines with the pupa apically protruding through the mine. Adult flies are greyish with black dorsal setae.
