Larvae of this insect mine the leaves of sugarcane and form tunnels by feeding between the upper and lower epidermis. Adults can be identified by the following combination of characters: body shiny black and covered with spines, presence of a long spine on the first antennal segment, apically excised fore tibiae, curved mid tibiae and asymmetrical tarsal claws.
