Common Soft Scales Of India

Coccids (Hemiptera: Sternorrhyncha: Coccomorpha: Coccidae), commonly known as soft scales, are one of the most economically important groups of agricultural insect pests. They are commonly transported on live plant material in trade, so are one of the most successful invasive insect groups.

This website has been developed as an identification aid to common coccids of India, many of which also occur in other parts of the world; it provides an account of 32 common species. For each species, a brief diagnostic account to aid in field identification is provided, based on external characters of the adult female. Diagnosis is supported by taxonomic characters of the slide-mounted adult female illustrated by microphotographs.

I hope the site will be informative and useful to economic entomologists, plant protection workers and students of entomology.

Any questions about the website or use of its contents should be directed to Sunil Joshi.
