Spiracles

Each spiracle is composed of a sclerotised, funnel-shaped outer peritreme, which opens through the spiracular opening or atrium into the tracheae. The size of each peritreme is important and can be useful in placing a species at the generic level. On some species, there is a sclerotization around each spiracle mesad to the peritreme and this is here referred to as the sclerotised spiracular plate
