Synonyms:

Canthecona concinna (Walker, 1867)

Taxonomic position

Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Asopinae

Diagnosis
  • Head not declivous
  • Mandibular plates as long as clypeus, apex of mandibular plates rounded
  • Pronotum more than twice as broad as long, anterolateral pronotal margin concave
  • Humeri moderately developed with lateral margin truncated
  • Scutellum subtriangular, longer than wide at base, apex narrow and U-shaped
  • Pro and mesosternum with median longitudinal carina
  • Forefemora with preapical spine, foretibiae lamellate
Male genitalia:

Genital capsule dorsoventrally flattened, dorsal rim concave, dorsal sclerite roughly saddle-shaped; ventral rim slightly wavy with minute V-notch medially. Paramere with large apically acute triangular crown, with two smaller inwardly curved excavation. Phallotheca short, dorsally convex; thecal processes collar-like broad, with membranous conjunctival processes.Genital capsule dorsoventrally flattened, dorsal rim concave, dorsal sclerite roughly saddle-shaped; ventral rim slightly wavy with minute V-notch medially. Female genitalia:

Spermatheca with narrow median dilation, distal invagination of spermathecal duct narrow and cylindrical, spermathecal pump short, proximal flange shorter; distal flange adpressed to large, orbicular apical receptacle; finger-like processes on apical receptacle absent.

Biology

Eggs hatch in 13-16 days, total nymphal developmental period of 33-36. In the life span of 19-46 days, female lays 25-48 eggs in each batch of 2-4

Host plants/Prey:

Cydia leucostoma (Meyr.), Caloptilia theivora (Walsm.) Biston suppressaria (Guene) on tea (Srikumar et al., 2018)

Distribution

China and Taiwan (Kirkaldy, 1910) India (Waghmare & Gaikwad 2017)

Comments

This species can be distinguished by the possession of truncate humeri and small hook-like spinous structure on the posterior angles of pronotum.
