Pentatomidae, commonly known as stink bugs, are one of the most diverse and fascinating heteropteran families with about 5000 species reported across the world in 940 genera and ten subfamilies (Rider et al., 2018). In India, about 390 species are recorded in 151 genera under four subfamilies namely Asopinae, Pentatomidae, Podopinae and Phyllocephalinae (Salini and Viraktamath, 2015; Salini, 2017a & 2017b; Waghmare & Gaikwad, 2017; Salini & Schmidt, 2018; Salini, 2019; Salini et al., 2021a; Salini & Kment, 2021; Salini & Roca-Cusachs, 2021).
Asopinae, the only predatory subfamily, primarily predate on soft bodied arthropods. Pentatominae, the largest subfamily of Pentatomidae, are phytophagous, prefer to feed on fruits, tender shoots or seeds of plants. Though not reported from India (Salini et al., 2021b), the invasive Brown Marmorated Stink Bug, Halymorpha halys (Stål), is a member of Pentatominae. The Podopinae are found cheifly in damp marshy or muddy habitats (Schuh & Slater, 1995) whereas phyllocephalines were usually found associated with roots of graminaceous plants.
