Taxonomic position

Diagnosis

Female: Length 0.95-1.43mm. Head and mesosoma yellow or orange; antennal scape white with black stripes along its dorsal and ventral margins, flagellum unicolourous brown; gaster brown; mid femur with a strong dark brown stripe dorsally, this crossing to ventral side distally near apex; antenna with scape broadened and flattened, about 2x as long as wide; frontovertex broader than an eye in facial view; mid tibial spur long and thin, at least 10x as long as broad and about one-third length of mid tibia; fore wing hyaline with a weak oblique fuscous band below submarginal vein and with a subapical fuscous band; paler apical area a little wider than combined lengths of marginal and postmarginal veins; costal cell of fore wing narrow with only a single line of setae ventrally; marginal vein at least a little longer than stigmal vein (Noyes and Hayat, 1994).

Distribution

India: Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal (Hayat, 2006).

Hosts / Biology

Ferrisia virgata on guava, Psidium guajava (Subba Rao, 1967; Hayat et al., 1975), Ficus (Hayat et al., 1975), and cotton (Hayat, 1989); Planococcus sp. on Giricidia sepium (Noyes and Hayat, 1994); indet. scales on Acalypha and Jatropha (Subba Rao, 1967); Nipaecoccus viridis (Bhuiya et al., 1997).
