Nomenclature
Ptilomymar Annecke and Doutt, 1961: 24. Type species: Ptilomymar rete Annecke and Doutt, by original designation.
Diagnosis
Ptilomymar belongs to the Camptoptera group of genera despite having only four tarsal segments - a result of fusion of tarsomeres 4 and 5. It can be distinguished by the following characters.
- Female antennal (Fig. 7) funicle 8-segmented; mandible bidentate
- Tarsi 4-segmented
- Propodeum sublaterally with large, areolate, translucent laminae and propodeal seta branched (Fig. 9)
- Petiole ventrally and gastral tergum 1 sublaterally with areolate, translucent lamina
- Tergite 1 largest , occupying major part of gaster.
Geographic Distribution
Worldwide, except Western Palaearctic (Lin et al., 2008).

Hosts and habitat
Probably parasitoids of aquatic insects because Ptilomymar spp. are almost always collected with pan traps set on or beside running or standing water (Lin et al., 2007).
