Nomenclature
Ooctonus Haliday, 1833: 343. Type species Ooctonus insignis Haliday, 1833, by original designation.
Diagnosis
- Pronotum with a transverse carina near posterior margin
- Fore wing (Fig. 7) with marginal and stigma veins forming an almost linear sigmoid curve
- Propodeum (Fig. 8) with several sharp carinae medially
- Gaster distinctly petiolate, at least 3x as long as broad
Geographic Distribution
Afrotropical, Australasian, Oriental, Neotropical, Nearctic, and Palaearctic regions.

Hosts and habitat
Known hosts belong to Cicadellidae and Thripidae (Noyes, 2013).
