Andrallus spinidens (Fabricius)

Ground colour sombre brown. Scutellum dark brown, apically yellowish. Hemelytra dark brown, with submarginal yellowish stripes running along entire length. Rostrum crassate, reaching metacoxae, segment II the longest, segment III the longest but subequal to IV, III+IV longer than II, bucculae prominent. Juga and tylus subequal in length. Anterolateral prothoracic margin thick, rugulose. Humeral angles of pronotum laterally produced into a bidentate, spinose projection. Posterior angles of pronotum without a hook or tooth. Frenal margin of scutellum longer than apical part. Profemora with small or obsolete anteapical spine. Scent gland auricle reaching 4/10 of distance to lateral margin of metapleuron, evaporatorium discontinuous, reduced to a narrow strip behind auricle. Males with a pair of glandular pubescent patches on ventral side of abdomen.

         Adult

Cosmopolitan. Widely distributed in the Oriental (China, Taiwan, Philippines, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh), Australasian (Australia, New Guinea) and Afrotropical regions; parts of Europe and North America.

India: Jammu & Kashmir; Karnataka; Uttaranchal; West Bengal.

Recorded as a predator of Spodoptera litura, S. mauritia, Melanitis leda ismene, Naranga aenescens, and Helicoverpa armigera. It has been reported to feed on the mexican beetle, Zygogramma bicolorata. Commonly collected on crops like rice, cotton, etc.
