Target pests |
"T.
brasiliensis" was introduced for use against sugarcane borers,
Chilo infuscatellus (Snellen), C. sacchariphagus
indicus (Kapur), C. auricilius (Dudgeon), C.
tumidicostalis (Hampson), Scirpophaga excerptalis
(Walker) and Acigona steniellus (Hampson); cotton
bollworms, Helicoverpa armigera (Huebner), Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders) and
Earias spp.
T. pretiosum
was introduced originally for use against Helicoverpa
armigera (Huebner). A thelytokous population has been
introduced from INRA, France, in 2007. |

Notes |
The true T. brasiliensis belongs to
the genus Trichogrammatoidea. The species introduced as
'T. brasiliensis' for use against sugarcane borers is
actually T. pretiosum as confirmed by morphological and
molecular evidence (Nagaraja et al., 2008). All the Indian literature pertaining to
T. brasiliensis from India, hence, most probably involve T.
pretiosum. The latest introduction
from INRA, France (2007) is a thelytokous form. |
